The 2S1 Gvozdika is a Russian howitzer with 122 mm calibre and 360 degree fire range. It is based on the multi-purpose chassis MT-LBu. It is designed to destroy and suppress infantry forces and firepower, destroy field fortifications, create passages in minefields and barbed wire barriers, and fight against enemy artillery, grenade launchers and armored vehicles. It is the world's first mass-produced amphibious chain powered howitzer of which over 10,000 copies have been produced. The hermetically welded hull has armour with steel plates up to 20 mm thick against balls. Water hazards can be overcome floating - powered by the chains. The 2S1 Gvozdika was introduced in 1972 and is used in over 40 countries.
